Equine Denistry

To all, it is very important to your horses to keep their teeth mantained. The dentist came out to the barn today and it was interesting to see the difference between the horses we have had for a while and the new ones that were added over the past year. All our guys needed minor filing and were very easy to get their teeth back in order, however two of the three new ones needed a LOT of work. Poor Katie was the worse. She had to be given double sedative just so the dentist could work the way he needed to and when he was done, he told me we will now see a completely different horse. She must have been miserable with the amount of sharp teeth she had, poor baby. Pete was bad too, but was quiet enough to only need a light sedative, but it was hard to reach all the way up to his big head. Libby was in the best shape for the new ones and may have been done in the past, but boy is she a lightweight when it comes to sedation. :) All in all a good visit, a bunch of groggy ponies put back into the field. I cannot wait to see how this changes some eating habits and behaviors.
